e all right so we have the results of the test vote that took place in the senate on pete hegseth. this is to break the filibuster and sandra it could be 51 votes to break it he may not get all those votes and final confirmation because some senators may say let's let the process proceed imago differently we've seen that in the past. >> sandra: we'll keep watching thank you for joining a same sandra smith. >> john: i'm john roberts we'll see you again tomorrow. the story with martha begins
12:01 pm
now. >> martha: all right we have a lot of breaking news this afternoon, i'm martha maccallum and this is the story. breaking right now the senate voting to advance pete hegseth's nomination for defence secretary. a couple of steps that are in between on this as you just heard john roberts mention its a test vote. we had a word that senator murkowski of alaska we'll be a nobody of course it would take at least three no votes which it doesn't sound like they have in order to even need j.d. vance as vice president tie-breaking vote bear but it doesn't sound like it will be necessary a this point he is clear the hurdle that is the main hurdle before this vote for secretary of defense. i should also mention we are waiting for the swearing in of john radcliffe.
12:02 pm
thanks are moving a bit faster today as we see movement on t this. we expect to see a swearing and as sort -- cia director as you remember he of course was rector of national intelligence in the first from presidency and will have an intelligence role as head of cia in this presidency we will wait for the swearing in. executive order coming from the white house a lot to watch this afternoon let's check in with her senior national correspondent reporting live from capitol hill on all of t this. >> hey, martha this is a big deal for the secretary of state nominee because it may mean he has 51 votes that he needs for final confirmation without the help of vice president j.d. vance that's because o'connell came forward and voted yes today on overcoming the filibuster to get to the final confirmation. two senators that we expected to vote no voted that was
12:03 pm
susan collins and lisa murkowski both put out lengthy statements on next. susan collins a few moments ago and they both point to a couple different things. they both say they don't believe pete hegseth is prepared to manage such an enormous size department like the pentagon and also pointing to the past allegations of infidelity and they just don't feel comfortable saying he is just not ready for that role. that's the two senators that are out. mitch mcconnell is in as are all the other senators in the conference. roger wicker had told me right before this vote, asked him do you think you still have the 50 that was when lisa murkowski came out she was unknown and he said yes pierce so they walked into the room feeling confident they had with the votes for quite some time and they knew they had them at wood not need
12:04 pm
j.d. vance to come in. what happens next is a lot of weeding. is a waiting game because democrats will jam it out again and evoke the 30 hour debate role and we will see final confirmation vote on pete hegseth until late friday night probably. martha. >> martha: all right thank you aisha. on capitol hill a lot going on there and meanwhile in other parts of the country it is like night and day. dramatic change of course a literally two days into the trump 2.0 presidency fox news embedded with ice and boston witnessed first-hand the apprehension of scores of migrant violent offenders many of whom had been picked up by the police for these criminal defenses and who are then released due to sanctuary rules. these are just part of hundreds

that we are going to find them whether they are released or n not. >> reporter: and martha it didn't stop there. after it was over ice boston told us they picked up two more targets here in the boston area one of which previously deported honduran illegal alien now charged with a woman while putting a gun in her mouth. the other a haitian man who flew into the country under president biden's controversial migrant flights program now charged with sexual assault. >> martha: extraordinary. incredible coverage though at a really great window into what's going on for just a quick question bill did the mayor are governor of massachusetts who've said in the past they would not allow ice to do this kind of work have they complained about any of this? >> reporter: they haven't and the governor of massachusetts actually started softening her tone yesterday coming out and saying she is not going to get in the way of federal law enforcement are immigration enforcement. is a little different from what she said before.
12:10 pm
>> it sure as i don't think anyone will miss these folks who have been accused and convicted of some hidden scribes. they were in the country illegally to begin with. phil, thank you. thank you very much. let's put up on the wall to show our panel as we go to them some of the migrant arrests we've seen so far just to give you a feel for this. and alleged ms-13 gang member someone arrested for child sex crime conviction aggravated sexual abuse of a child tax second degree assault of a child. these are some of the other gems who have now been asked and it will be leaving the country. we want to bring in a former i.c.e. agent who survived a cartel ambush that killed his partner in mexico in 2011. he has served in this capacity and has a lot of experience. and a fox news contributor katie and jose former press secretary
12:11 pm
now media director for latino wall street welcome to all of you. win you watch that victor i'll start with you, what goes through your mind as you see your former fellow ice members doing their job. >> it brings a smile to my face i'll tell you that first. win i go back i think they always wanted to do this, divide in administration wasn't allowing them they had them handcuff to their desks so that's why you're going to see this activity and by the way if you notice the individuals they are targeted individuals with packets. we have a packet with information on them we know where there had they just hadn't been able to go get them because they weren't allowed to. so you will see this is just the beginning and these task forces will be made up of a lot of federal agencies we heard
12:12 pm
already from homeland security investigations and special agents will join them there will be a surge if you will across the country with these types of operations where the numbers of illegals will be picked up and removed. >> martha: yeah, there are 1.4 million people believe who already have deportation orders. that's why this is easy, it's not easy but obviously they take a dangerous position going to apprehend them but as you say victor they already know where they are and what the charges are against them and they know they committed the first crime by entering the country in illegally. i want to play this, it's a montage of some of the former vice president and president talking about this issue. watch. >> the president has said he wants to get work done and they keep getting in the way. house republicans keep getting in the way. >> trump on the other hand has been talking a big game about

securing our border but he does not walk the walk. >> obviously jose congress has not changed anything at this point. what's happening right now are the powers that the president has. >> off goes through your mind win you watch those voices and you see what's happening? >> look martha we are on day three here release of three or four days so we're looking at 300 to 500 daily ice reads over the -- those of the same numbers biden was doing on a daily and turning 24 so nothing has changed really but i'll tell you this it survived partisan issue. if you belong to ms-13 we want you deported and out of our country. >> jose you cannot possibly say with a straight face that nothing has changed. you just are one of those people they apprehended. >> martha look at the numbers.
12:14 pm
it's been the same amount of deportations okay since 2024. that make it bigger it might escalate and i'm happy for that pair if you're a criminal and looking at the worst first if you're a criminal and you committed a crime in this country we want you out of the country. the real challenge here is what are we going to do with the other nine or 10 million undocumented immigrants who don't have a new crime. that's the real issue and the challenge i think president travis when you face but i'm happy to see that things like immigration bill that was just passed in the house and the lake and highly act got passed in the senate bipartisanship. i think democrats understand the election was very clear -- laken riley -- americans want more security and the economy improved. >> martha: people in these neighborhoods are feeling safer to me. katie, respond to the suggestion
12:15 pm
from jose that nothing has changed. >> everything has changed democrats have tried to change their attitude on this but it should not be lost on anybody that democrats at the federal level including former president biden who said these types of criminals using arrested today over the course of the past couple days by i.c.e. agents who been begging to go out and doing these dangerous jobs he said there are the best of our society. democrats haven't made any distinguishing between what types of illegal aliens until now and they've been harboring these people for years inside of their unities as they had a record in their home country and brought it to communities in the united states then carried out heinous crimes against american citizens. now that there are consequences they are going to prosecute democrats who continue to harvard these aliens inside cities. they are all the sudden change
12:16 pm
in their tomb but make no mistake democrats invited this, local officials allowed and harbored them there a number of them still not doing it and the federal government let and millions more to harm americans and the jumping administration is changing that today. >> martha: all right thank you guys, thank you all. i think it tells you so much that the mayor of boston and the governor of massachusetts are not getting in the way of this at all. after they said they would be standing between ice and individuals they wanted to remove. victor, katie, jose thank you all for being here today. so president trump at any moment now is expected to signed another executive order from the white house. remember there are 200 on the list we have no details yet on what this one is going to be about. we saw a very big order come down yesterday during this program so we will bring you

but for the american people so i'd like to see oil prices come down. win the energy comes down it's going to knock out a lot of the inflation that's going to bring the interest rates down. >> are you worried there is too much going on at once if you try to bring it just rates down please. >> president donald trump: no it just works that weigh for economically works that way win the oil comes down it'll bring down prices than you won't have inflation and interest rates will come down. >> he said demanded the interest ra >> a strong statement. >> to expect them to listen to you? >> president donald trump: he. >> are you going to talk to apollo about this about bringing rates down quick. >> president donald trump: at the right time i will. >> pardon january sixth are you prepared to meet with any of them are the white house. >> president donald trump: i don't know i did them something important but what they did is protested occur -- cricket election. people understand that and they
12:54 pm
were treated very badly. no one has been treated like that. so i would be open to it certainly appeared i don't know of anything like that but i think meeting some of the congresspeople they're going to want to meet but i'd certainly be open to it. >> have you spoken to them? >> president donald trump: i haven't spoken to any of them yet but i know they are very happy. i give them their life back. their life was taken away unnecessarily and unfairly and i give them their life back so i can imagine they'd probably like to. >> mr. president when you said biden took that advice not pardoning himself. >> president donald trump: i think he did because he pardoned all these people there cricket is hollow. and what they did is destroyed evidence. especially criminally like that and they proved i was right they didn't destroy evidence they
12:55 pm
destroyed it because they found many documents saying i offered 10,000 soldiers if they have 500 soldiers or national guard it would've been no problem if they had 200 it would've been, i offered 10,000 if they needed it would have been no problem. totally disproven and also disproven by the daughter of nancy pelosi saying she has full responsibility of the spot they destroyed everything. they go through a year and a half or two years of nonsense they come up with tremendous evidence and they destroyed evidence and he knew all about the destruction of evidence and a lot of people say he is the one that got them to do it. he is a totally crooked politician. he is pardon and some other people are part and pair these are crooked politicians. everyone of them pair and what eddie johnson did is incredible
12:56 pm
a all of them destroyed evidence and deleted everything. there is nothing with no evidence now. they are crooked politicians and should be punished. that's even in civil trial you go to jail for a thing like that. they destroyed every document from what i understand. because it proved that i was totally innocent. >> trips to the seven border. >> president donald trump: southern border? win sa 10,000 troops hours referring to the capital i was referring to the capital. i offered 10,000 troops to the capital before january january the 6th. >> and what exactly do you want them to be doing right now?
12:57 pm
>> president donald trump: making sure the border is safe and secure and criminals don't come into our country. >> do you think sanctions on russia will force president putin -- >> president donald trump: i don't know but i think you should make a deal. >> does it bother you elon musk criticized a deal you made publicly he said he tweeted that. >> president donald trump: no it doesn't. he hates one of the people and the deal. >> president donald trump: i've spoken to elon and to all of them. the people in the deal a vary people but elon one of the people i've certain pages of people to. >> 's are on china what do you think they could do on the report? ukraine russia. >> president donald trump: and china? they have a lot of power over russia. they supply energy to russia and russia supplies energy to them
12:58 pm
they supply other things, you know, it's are the very big trade partner about russia supplies a lot of energy to china and china pays them a lot of money for that. i think they have a lot of power over russia so i think russia should want to make a deal. i think from what i hear putin would like to see me and we will meet as soon as i can. every day we don't meet tax soldiers are being killed on a battlefield and that battlefield is like no battlefield since world war iid have pictures that want to see pierce soldiers are being killed on a daily basis numbers we haven't seen in decades. it would be nice to end that were its a ridiculous work. >> you said ukraine is ready >> president trump: he is
12:59 pm
somebody that lost a lot of soldiers. and so did russia. russia lost more soldiers. lost 800,000 soldiers. would you say that it is a lot? that sounds like a lot. >> what is your response to his children... who say that dei orders are a contradiction of his dream and could further drive... >> president trump: i wouldn't. >> how do you see the war in yemen? >> president trump: we will see what happens. they can to shoot down our ships. they can't shoot down our ships or any ships and that is what they have been doing. not good for them. >> home security protections for former secretary of state mike pay on and brian hunt? >> president trump: when you have protection you can't have
1:00 pm
it for the rest of your life. do you want to guard people for the rest of their lives? there is risks to everything. >> iran's nuclear facilities? for example striking iran's nuclear facilities? >> president trump: obviously i'm not going to answer that question. i will be meeting with various people over the next couple of days. hopefully that can be worked out without having to worry. it would be nice if that can be worked out without having to go that further step. i'd rather not say that. but very high level people. hopefully that can be worked out. i ran hopefully will make a deal and then i will make a deal like us that is okay as well. >> mr. president, a follow-up, you said you think the feds should listen to you. could you elaborate? >> president trump: with regards to interest rate?
